Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:
With our growing reliance on technology, specifically computers and handheld devices, carpal tunnel syndrome has become one of the most widespread occupational health hazards we face, affecting millions of people a year. The syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve just above the wrist due to either a specific injury or from overuse during activities like typing, pushing, chopping, hammering, squeezing or other repetitive uses of one’s hands. Symptoms include wrist pain, numbness, tingling, burning and weakened grip strength.
In most cases, a chiropractic adjustment to the wrist is an effective treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome. In some cases, the syndrome is caused my a misalignment in the back or neck, in which case the adjustment would be performed on those areas in order to relieve the pain in the wrist area.
Once the adjustment is done, consistent physical therapy can in most cases alleviate the symptoms associated with carpal tunnel syndrome.
